The Benefits of Facial Liposuction
As one of the first parts of the body we focus on, the face often makes a lasting impression. Unfortunately, not everyone is comfortable in his or her own skin, and for some people it is the face that they feel insecure about.
Enhancing the facial appearance can have a significant impact on one’s self-confidence. There are many ways to change and emphasize areas of the face, from facial surgery like facelift and browlift, to nonsurgical treatments like Botox and skin resurfacing. For individuals who are concerned with extra fat in the neck and chin area, facial liposuction can be an excellent solution.
Is Facial Liposuction Right for You?
A good diet and regular exercise can tone many aspects of the body. Unfortunately, excess fat in the neck and chin is often very stubborn and immune to attempts at weight loss. This can prove particularly frustrating, especially for individuals who have worked hard to create a new, fit figure.
If you are bothered by excess fat in the neck and chin area, facial liposuction can help. This procedure can restore a healthier, more rejuvenated appearance while increasing self-confidence and self-esteem as well. Facial liposuction will remove the fat deposits in various areas of the face to create a new you. The results of the fat removal are permanent, though future weight gain can cause fat deposits to develop in other areas. Any healthy man or woman who has excess fat deposits, good skin elasticity, and is in good health with realistic expectations can be an excellent candidate for facial liposuction.
Facial liposuction requires general anesthesia to be administered in a surgical setting. If the skin is very elastic, a face or neck lift will not be needed because the skin will adjust to the new contour once the fat is removed. If the skin is not elastic or a large amount of fat was removed from the area, a face or neck lift will likely be needed to address sagging or excess skin. The elasticity of the skin is often greatly dependent on the age of the patient. The incisions that are made will be very small and typically only involve one or two. They will require stitches and a dressing to cover them. Typically, if facial liposuction is the only procedure performed, normal activity can be resumed the following day. Pain medication is also often prescribed.
If excess skin exists after liposuction has been performed, a facelift may be needed. Depending on the type of lift that the surgeon deems necessary and the goals of the surgery, the lift may require general anesthesia. Traditional facelifts require incisions to be made starting at the temple near the ear and extending behind the ear back to the hairline. This allows for any possible scars that occur during the healing process to be well-hidden. The incisions will be placed within natural skin creases. The skin will be moved and repositioned allowing the excess skin to be removed entirely. This will assist in creating a smooth and tight jaw or neck line. A small cut may need to be made under the chin which would allow for a drainage tube to fit. The incisions will then be closed and a facial dressing will be placed. The recovery process for a facelift can last up to two weeks, and a full six months is often required until the area is fully healed.
Smartlipo is a procedure that also removes fat deposits from areas of the face in a less invasive way than traditional liposuction. This laser technique ruptures fat cells and liquefies them first, which allows them to then be removed quickly. Smartlipo is faster and less invasive both during surgery and recovery. An additional benefit to smartlipo is that it can enhance the elasticity of the skin during the procedure due to the use of the laser. It is great for treating small areas such as the neck and chin. Scarring is very limited and often does not occur. It can also be used on other areas of the body. Smartlipo can also be used with other skin tightening techniques after the surgery is performed.
If you are a healthy man or woman who is tired of the excess facial fat that you simply cannot get rid of, facial liposuction may be the right procedure for you. Each patient will have an individualized and unique plan developed just for him or her. Depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed, a full liposuction procedure or a smart liposuction procedure can be discussed.
