In and Out: Procedures For When You're in a Hurry

You like the idea of turning back the clock when it comes to your appearance, but you don't like the idea of spending a week or two recovering after a facial plastic surgery. The idea of spending a few hours in a procedure doesn't appeal to you either.

Luckily, there are several non-surgical procedures that provide results quickly, but don't take very long to perform at all. You won't get the same results from these non-surgical options as you would from surgery, but they might be ideal for you at this stage in your life.

Botox

Plenty of people consider Botox when they think about non-surgical procedures to fight the earliest signs of aging. That could be because Botox is well-known enough to be a household name, but it also has to do with the overall convenience of the treatment.

Typically, it can take as little as 10 minutes for a plastic surgeon to administer a Botox injection. Depending on the situation, you could be in and out of the practice within 30 minutes, making Botox a treatment you can schedule over your lunch break.

Although the procedure itself is pretty quick, it's worth pointing out that the results can take a few days to become visible. Botox works by preventing certain nerves from signaling certain muscles. Those muscles are responsible for the movements that lead to the development of frown lines and crow's feet.

It usually takes a few days for the skin in the area to relax enough that the lines are no longer visible. After that, results can last for about three months. If you're happy with the treatment, you can schedule a repeat every few months to maintain the results.

Dermal Fillers

Like Botox, dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, take just a few minutes to perform. There are a few key differences between the two types of injections, though. For one thing, the results from a Juvederm treatment are visible right away. The injectable works by adding volume to certain lines and wrinkles, so you can see how it's working immediately.

The other big difference between the two injectables is the type of wrinkles they treat. Botox works on the lines created by movements. Juvederm and other fillers work on wrinkles that have formed as a result of collagen and volume loss.

Microdermabrasion

While injections help to correct lines and wrinkles, microdermabrasion is a quick, non-surgical procedure that helps to improve a range of other skin concerns, from dull, uneven texture to acne marks.

Microdermabrasion is in many ways the kinder, gentler sibling of dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is a type of surgery that involves removing layers of skin to help correct irregularities. The treatment is very deep and often requires the use of anesthesia to ensure a patient is comfortable. After dermabrasion, recovery can take a few weeks.

Meanwhile, microdermabrasion has no recovery time and doesn't require anesthesia. It's an in-office procedure and many people after able to go home and go about their regular day immediately afterward.

The trade-off between dermabrasion and microdermabrasion is that you get considerably more dramatic results from dermabrasion. But if you're just looking to give your skin a boost and don't have the time to dedicate to recovery, microdermabrasion can be the better pick.

Sclerotherapy

If you have unsightly spider veins or varicose veins, sclerotherapy is often the recommended treatment. It's considerably less invasive than vein surgery and provides good results when the veins aren't too large. Sclerotherapy also doesn't take very long, since all it is is a series of injections into the problem veins. Many people are able to go back to their regular life right after the treatment.

One thing worth knowing about sclerotherapy is that you might need second or even third treatment to get the results you want. Even so, it's still a pretty quick and simple procedure that can vastly improve the appearance of and the way you feel about your legs.
