Juvéderm Voluma in Michigan

Aging causes the natural volume of the cheeks to diminish. As this volume decreases, flattened cheeks can make patients feel less attractive than they once did. Cheek volume loss can be frustrating, but finding the right treatment option doesn’t have to be difficult. Juvéderm Voluma® is a next generation dermal filler that has recently been FDA approved for deep injection into the cheeks to correct age-related cheek volume loss. Dr. Masri specializes in providing patients with long-lasting Juvéderm Voluma® results for natural-looking volume.

Juvéderm Voluma

Juvéderm Voluma® is a gel that is composed of hyaluronic acid - a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds volume and hydration. Two distinct advantages that Juvéderm Voluma® has over other dermal fillers are the following:

  1. Its unique smooth consistency helps instantly restore cheek volume and smooth away wrinkles, lines, creases, and folds
  2. It is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color

Countless patients have undergone Juvéderm Voluma® treatment at Masri Clinic and have achieved beautiful results that meet or exceed their expectations and aesthetic goals. Increased volume from a Juvéderm Voluma® treatment can last for up to two years.

Procedure

Juvéderm Voluma® treatments are performed at any of Masri Clinic’s in-office procedure suites. Dr. Masri uses the following steps to carry out the treatment:

  1. Skin preparation. The entire cheek area is cleaned and sterilized. A topical numbing cream is applied to the patient so they feel little to no pain or discomfort during the procedure.
  2. Juvéderm Voluma A tiny needle is used to carefully inject Juvéderm Voluma® into the areas of the cheeks that have begun to sag and lose volume. Ice is applied between injections to minimize swelling. Lidocaine, a local anesthetic that is added to Juvéderm Voluma®, further reduces discomfort and pain during the injection process.

Patients may return home or to work immediately after their procedure. Tenderness, swelling, and pain may occur, but these side effects can be easily treated using ice packs or compresses and over-the-counter pain and anti-inflammatory medications.

Recovery

Before returning home from their procedure, patients will receive detailed recovery information and instructions from the Masri Clinic provider who performed their procedure. Patients who follow recovery instructions can expect long-lasting results. Patients are advised to avoid sun exposure and strenuous physical activity for twenty-four hours after their procedure. Throughout the first two to four weeks of recovery, patients should check their skin for redness and swelling on a regular basis. Sunscreen should be worn to protect the sensitive skin and ensure optimal results.

Results

Juvéderm Voluma® procedure results will be immediately visible after the procedure. Patients are often amazed at how natural the results look. They are typically thrilled with the improvement—and no one should be able to tell they have had a cosmetic procedure. Some of the specific results patients should see after treatment include the following:

  • Increased cheek volume
  • A smoother facial contour
  • A more youthful appearance
  • Softer skin

Patients who take care of their skin and live a healthy lifestyle can look forward to their results lasting up to two years. When results begin to fade, touch up injections can be used for maintenance and an ongoing youthful appearance.

Candidates

Patients over the age of 21 who would like to improve the appearance of their cheeks and mid-face may be candidates for a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure. The procedure is typically reserved for healthy adults with no serious medical conditions. To ensure maximum results and prevent complications, patients who fall into the following categories should let their provider know before their procedure:

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Patients who have a history of scarring easily
  • Patients with skin pigmentation disorders
  • Patients who have recently had or plan on having a facial laser or chemical peel treatment

Patients who smoke will be asked to stop before and after their surgery as smoking can increase the risk of infection and decrease or diminish results.

Initial Consultation

An initial consultation with an expert at Masri Clinic is the first step in the Juvéderm Voluma® procedure process. Each initial consultation is thorough and patient-focused. It consists of the following:

  1. Medical history. The expert and patient discuss the patient’s medical history (including medical conditions and previous surgeries) and treatment goals and expectations.
  2. Physical examination. The expert examines the patient's face, cheeks, and skin. The amount of sagging skin and volume loss in the cheeks is then analyzed and documented. Pictures are taken for comparison purposes.
  3. Treatment plan. A customized treatment plan that is in the best interests of the patient is created. This custom treatment plan is designed to yield natural results that meet the patient’s goals.

A question and answer session is always held before patients make their treatment decision. During the session, patients may ask questions and bring up any concerns so Masri Clinic experts can properly answer and address them. If necessary, alternative treatment options can be discussed. Patients who choose to undergo a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure at Masri Clinic always go into their procedure comfortable, relaxed, and excited to see their new and improved look.

Voluma FAQs

Are there risks associated with the procedure?

All cosmetic procedures have risks. The risks specific to a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure are minimal. This is because the procedure is minimally invasive and Masri Clinic staff members take further precautions to reduce risk. Patients will have all the risks of the procedure explained to them at their initial consultation. Potential risks of the procedure do not play a role in the decision-making process of the overwhelming majority of patients. Additionally, patients who undergo the procedure report that their excellent experience and results made the risks associated with the procedure seem minuscule.

Does the procedure hurt?

There is always a small chance that an injection may cause some pain or discomfort. The experts at Masri Clinic reduce this potential with the following measures:

  • A topical numbing is applied to the skin before the injection
  • Ice is applied between injections
  • Patients are monitored throughout their procedure to see if they are in pain or discomfort so that adjustments can be made if necessary

Additionally, Juvéderm Voluma® contains lidocaine. When lidocaine is introduced into the cheek area, it numbs tissues and reduces pain.

How long will my procedure take?

One of the great things about a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure is that it does not take long. Many patients have the procedure during their lunch break and return to work shortly after. Total procedure time is always dependent on the individual patient’s needs. At their initial consultation, patients will be told approximately how long they can expect their procedure to be.

Will I have a scar after my procedure?

A Juvéderm Voluma® procedure is performed using a very tiny needle. No incisions that require sutures are made. The scar that forms after the procedure will be so small that it can only be seen using a magnifying device.

Will a touch-up procedure be needed?

Many patients choose to have a quick touch-up procedure about a month after their initial procedure. The purpose of a touch-up procedure is to treat areas that may need a little extra volume. The possibility of a touch-up is something that patients can discuss with their provider if they are interested in boosted results.

Is a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure the same thing as a fat grafting procedure?

A Juvéderm Voluma® procedure and a fat grafting procedure are different procedures. A fat grafting procedure takes unwanted fat from one area of a patient’s body and moves it into the cheeks. A Juvéderm Voluma® procedure, on the other hand, involves the injection of a synthetic dermal filler into the cheeks. Patients who are interested in determining which procedure is right for their condition are encouraged to bring the topic up during their initial consultation.

Can I see before and after photos of patients who have undergone a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure at Masri Clinic?

Masri Clinic has a large collection of before and after photos that patients can look at to help them make their treatment decision. One of Masri Clinic’s advantages is that during the consultation, staff members are able to select before and after photos of former patients who closely resemble the patient. This ensures that patients know what they can expect should they make the decision to have a procedure.

How do I know if I am a candidate?

Patients who are interested in improving the appearance of their cheeks and mid-face are encouraged to schedule an initial consultation at Masri Clinic to determine if a Juvéderm Voluma® procedure is a treatment option that will help them reach their aesthetic goals.

How do I schedule my initial consultation?

Patients who are ready to schedule their initial consultation can do so by contacting one of our offices in Birmingham, MI or Dearborn, MI. The experts at Masri Clinic are always ready to help patients achieve beautiful natural cheek rejuvenation.
