Liquid Facelift: Advanced Facial Rejuvenation Treatment for Everyone

masriclinic • Jul 01, 2021

A facelift is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed, but many people still go for a surgical facelift to manage conditions like frown lines or sagging jowls. But for patients who want to get rid of a wrinkle without having to go through a surgical procedure, advanced dermal fillers have rapidly grown in popularity as a way to treat nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, dynamic wrinkles, and other signs of facial aging in the form of liquid facelifts.

But what exactly are the benefits of a liquid face lift treatment, and are there situations where a traditional facelift like cosmetic surgery can be a better option? For patients who need to manage mild to moderate facial lines and wrinkles, an injectable facelift can help improve their facial appearance without any invasive methods or prolonged post-procedural care. While there are cases where a traditional facelift may work better, a liquid face lift procedure is an effective alternative to facial plastic surgery.

What Exactly Makes the Liquid Facelift Treatment so Revolutionary?

A liquid facelift treatment uses facial filler to add volume to the face, treat deep wrinkles and fine lines, and generally manage the signs of aging. There are several types of injectable filler that you can choose from, with different primary ingredients that all promote skin rejuvenation.

What makes the non surgical liquid facelift so special is that it can give you the same kind of results that you'd normally expect from facelift surgery without the need for any incisions or other invasive methods. Whether it's making your jawline more defined for a better facial contour or treating nasolabial folds and other kinds of facial wrinkles, dermal filler is an effective and potentially long-term solution.

It's similar (but not the same) as Botox, another injectable treatment that can help with controlling wrinkles. While the liquid facelift technique relies on getting a filler material to provide structure to the skin as the active ingredient increases collagen production, Botox injections work by blocking the muscle's ability to move and contract, which causes wrinkles with enough time. Both can be administered by trained professionals like a plastic surgeon or a medical aesthetician, though there are some cases where the patients themselves administer their Botox treatment.

Liquid Facelift Treatment vs. Skin Rejuvenation Products

Dermal filler and skin rejuvenation products have a few things in common. The most important similarity that they have is that they help the skin rejuvenate itself by boosting its production of essential compounds like collagen and elastin, which can help invigorate the skin and make it more resilient against wear and tear. However, dermal fillers have some key advantages over skin rejuvenation products:

Less frequency needed with the application

Dermal fillers need reapplication every 6 to 8 months on average, but skin rejuvenation products need daily use for their best results. If you can’t keep a rigorous skincare routine, getting liquid facelift treatments are a much better option. Depending on the type of dermal filler that you’ll use and the kind of wrinkle you want to manage, you can reasonably expect a period of at least several months to a year before you need another injectable treatment again.

More reliable results

Skin rejuvenation products such as retinol have a fairly straightforward way of achieving results. However, dermal filler far outperforms them since it can provide both short and long-term improvements to your skin. They’re also far more biocompatible with your body than skin rejuvenation products, with some brands being completely free from animal ingredients. And since the active ingredients are all naturally found and produced by the skin, there’s less chance of your body rejecting the treatment.

No need for a lot of work

Finally, keeping a skincare routine is essential if you want to gain the full benefits of using skin rejuvenation products. This may not always be an option for some people (especially those with active lifestyles), so dermal filler functions as a great alternative that can give them the same results with far less effort. While there are still some things that you should do to avoid decreasing the effects of your liquid facelift treatment over time, you’re generally expected to do a lot less work on maintenance.

When Facial Plastic Surgery Is a Better Option

While liquid facelifts were developed as a non-invasive alternative to plastic surgery, there are some cases where getting a surgical face lift might be your best option to treat facial wrinkles.

If there’s a lot of sagging or excess skin

Dermal fillers come in a variety of brands that can help treat sagging or excess skin, but for old patients or people who’ve experienced dramatic weight loss, plastic surgery is still the best option. Your skin has impressive regenerative capabilities, but depending on your genetics, age, and any pre-existing conditions, liquid facelift treatment may not work that well for you.

You can even consider other skin tightening treatments in combination with your facial surgery, though you should leave the viability of that treatment to your dermatologist/doctor. Since surgery requires a lot of upfront costs of both time and resources, you might not be able to fit in skin tightening treatments on top of all that.

If you want immediate and permanent results

One distinct advantage a traditional facelift will have over a liquid facelift procedure is that the results are visible soon after the procedure and can often last for the rest of your life. Since dermal filler needs some time before giving visible results and needs regular reapplication for you to look your best, it may not be a viable option if you want immediate and permanent improvements to your facial appearance.

However, keep in mind that the results of surgery can be irreversible or very difficult to undo once the procedure is done. They’re also more expensive than a liquid facelift treatment, and they may not always offer you the results that you want. In contrast, dermal filler can be reversed (after the effects run out) and you have more options to choose from if one brand or active ingredient isn’t working for you.

If you’re allergic to dermal filler

Dermal filler is usually made of biocompatible products and active ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Some brands like Restylane and Juvederm have even made entire product lines that cater specifically to certain lines in the face and the results that you want. But while the majority of their products are made of their filler material and the primary collagen booster, they may contain other ingredients that you’re allergic to.

This is particularly apparent with some animal-based dermal fillers that some patients may avoid for health or dietary purposes. In cases like these, you can always consider laser treatment or chemical peels, but the best solution for long-lasting results is most likely plastic surgery.

However, recent advancements in the ingredients and manufacturing of liquid facelift products can soon make these concerns irrelevant. If you’re considering plastic surgery over a liquid facelift procedure, always consult with your dermatologist or cosmetic practice whether the results that you want can or can’t be obtained with dermal filler.
