Acne Treatments

Acne is a very common condition that many of us have experienced at a certain period of our lives, especially in the teenage years. This is caused by the over production of the sebum (oil) in the deep layer of the skin. This can be aggravated by certain high carbohydrate low fiber diets. Certain foods like caffeine and chocolate can increase it. Stress is also an aggravating factor.

Bacteria called P. acnes grows in the plugged follicles causing the acne. If the hair follicle is blocked this leads to a formation of a whitehead, however if it is open this will cause reaction with the oxygen in the atmosphere leading to blackish dirty color what is known as blackhead. There are many approved treatments for acne including topical cleansers, topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics, comedolytics such as Retin-A, Estringents and exfolliants:

Photodynamic Therapy

This includes the painting of a solution known as Levulenic acid (ALA). Then, after an incubation period where the acid remains on the skin, the area is exposed to LED Blue Light. There will be a reaction on the skin that will subside within a period of a week leading to death of most of the bacteria.

This is a very successful treatment for sun-damaged skin including precancerous conditions also for hyper-pigmentations caused by sun damage.

This is a new state of the art treatment that is performed with application of aminolevulinic acid or Levulan® Kerastick to treat skin damage in a gentler way. After applying this material for a certain period of time, specific light is delivered to the skin at a certain wavelength either by using LED Blue Light or Intense Pulsed Light. This will produce redness and an inflammatory reaction that will restore smoother, healthier, and younger looking skin.

This is a very successful treatment for sun-damaged skin including precancerous conditions also for hyper-pigmentations caused by sun damage. These treatments are recommended at three week intervals and the number of treatments necessary will vary and depend on the condition of the skin.

The patient will experience some burning sensation during the treatment and mild swelling and moderate to severe redness. This will look like a severe sunburn and heal typically between five to seven days.

It is important that the patient avoids all sunlight for two days after treatment. There will be significant fading of all sunspots and decrease in the facial redness and the fine lines as new collagen forms to increase the thickness of the skin and improve its condition.

This method has become very popular in treating acne especially the severe sebaceous cystic acne. This treatment has also become popular for treating rosacea. There has been noticeable reduction in the size of the pores of the skin and more even skin tone and significant reduction of the depth of the wrinkles.

Side effects: there has not been significant adverse side-effects seen with the photo-dynamic therapy or PDT with ALA.

MICRODERMABRASION FAQ

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DERMABRASION AND MICRODERMABRASION?

There is almost no comparison between these two procedures. Microdermabrasion is more of a spa treatment to offer a very mild improvement in skin texture. Dermabrasion generally refers to a surgeon performed procedure that is excellent for acne scars or deep wrinkles. However, the recovery time is obviously greater for dermabrasion. Since laser resurfacing came about dermabrasion has become old school. Laser resurfacing has less down time and more results. Laser resurfacing can be repeated as much as the patient likes (as long as there is enough healing time between sessions) whereas Dermabrasion thins the skin so the procedure can only be repeated a few times.

  • DO YOU STILL RECOMMEND MICRODERMABRASION OR ARE THERE NEWER TREATMENTS THAT ARE MORE EFFECTIVE?

This would depend on exactly what which condition we are treating. Long term results are not achieved with microdermabrasion.

  • WHAT CAN DERMABRASION BE USED TO TREAT?

Dermabrasion of the skin can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as acne pitting, wrinkles, scars, texture, pigmentation and sagging skin. We offer less invasive treatment alternatives including laser treatments as well as chemical peels and treatment packages for all of these issues as well. Please come in for a complementary Visia™ Skin Analysis to see which treatment would be the best for your skin type.

  • ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR A FULL MICRODERMABRASION PROCEDURE?

Many patients experience softer, smoother glowing skin after their first treatment. The recommended treatment plan is between two and twelve treatment, depending on the condition and type of your skin and the results desired.

  • I'M FROM DETROIT AND I WOULD LIKE MICRODERMABRASION TO TREAT MY FACIAL ACNE SCARS AND WRINKLES ON MY CHEEKS. I HAVE READ THAT IT WILL ALSO REMOVE SUN SPOTS, WHICH IS WONDERFUL. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME FOR MICRODERMABRASION? ARE THERE ANY COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROCEDURE?

Microdermabrasion will not treat acne scars or wrinkles. Co2 laser, Erbium laser and fractionated laser are best to treat scars and wrinkles. Once your skin is analyzed we could determine which would be best for your skin.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel uses a solution applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells. Chemical peels have been used safely for over 100 years. There are numerous medications available for improving acne, skin tone and the texture. A lot of these medications can be done without losing any time off work. They produce minimal redness however they improve the quality of the skin over a span of a few days. Among the most popular chemical peels are:

  1. Glycolic Peel: Glycolic acid is naturally found in grapefruit. This material used in different concentrations can be used to improve acne and fine lines. The procedure is inexpensive and can be repeated on weekly basis for one skin cycle (6 weeks) or more. Lighter concentrations of Glycolic peels can be used by the patient at home on a weekly basis. Also worth noting, you can have this procedure done during pregnancy.
  2. Jessner Peel: This is a solution that has been used for years to revitalize the skin. It results in minimal redness for the first 2 or 3 days and produces excellent results for skin rejuvenation.
  3. Lactic & Carbolic Peels: These peels are considered to be light to medium depth. They help improve fine to medium depth wrinkles, and do not necessitate any time off from work.
  4. Hydroquinone Peel: These can be done at different concentrations for the purpose of removing freckles and lightening and blending skin color. Associated with minimal redness for a couple of days.
  5. TCA Peel: Use of different concentrations will give excellent results for medium depth to deep wrinkles. The higher concentration peels will require one to two weeks time off work.
  6. Phenol Peel: This is reserved for very deep wrinkles and would require an extended period of recovery.

Those who have blemish-prone skin, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, sun damage, or general poor skin quality will benefit the most.

We also offer laser treatments for a variety of skin conditions which may be a better option for some conditions of the skin. Pleases come in for a consultation and we can go over all options with you.

  • WHAT IS A GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL?

A glycolic acid peel is a specific technique for skin renewal. During this process, a high concentration of glycolic acid is applied to the skin for a short period of time and then chemically neutralized to end the treatment. Glycolic peels help improve skin texture and discoloration, however there are more advanced and effective treatments such as MCA peels combined with laser resurfacing.

IPL Treatments (Intense Pulsed Light)

All patients see positive results from a FotoFacial™ without any of the potential side effects seen with other lasers.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a treatment with a machine that produces a very strong pulse light that will lead to remodeling of the deeper level of the skin and death of the bacteria.

The untreated acne will result typically with acne scars, which are depressions, and ice pic scars.

For the treatment of acne scars C02 laser resurfacing is successful and this can be done under local or general anesthesia.

PiQo4 Laser

PiQo4 laser is the latest in cutting-edge technology in helping patients resolve unwanted pigmentation and rejuvenate the skin without the downtime, for all skin types. The PiQo4 laser offers both improved tattoo removal and skin rejuvenation benefits, while helping patients resolve unwanted skin imperfections, making these inconveniences a thing of the past. Dr. Masri and his team of specialists at Masri Clinic for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery are pleased to offer this state-of-the-art laser to patients in Dearborn, Michigan.

What is the PiQo4 Laser?

PiQo4 is a unique laser that can give patients two benefits, depending on the goals of treatment: tattoo removal and skin rejuvenation.

Laser tattoo removal works by breaking up the ink in the skin so that the body can gradually dispose of the ink particles. However, some colors have historically been more difficult to treat with standard laser systems than others. Using four different wavelengths, PiQo4 can more effectively treat a rainbow of tattoo ink colors compared to older lasers that only offered two wavelengths. Combining both pico and nano technology, PiQo4 breaks up ink more efficiently and works better on stubborn inks. PiQo4 also treats a larger spot size at once, reducing the length time of treatments and penetrating the skin more deeply than other lasers, while being safer for the skin.

The PiQo4 laser can also be used to rejuvenate the skin in a non-invasive treatment that relies on mechanical energy, rather than heat energy. The laser energy encourages new collagen and elastin production, which allows the skin to regain its health and its youthful qualities. Laser treatments can also correct pigmentation issues such as melasma and pigmented lesions, birthmarks, acne scars, and vascular lesions.

The Benefits of PiQo4

Patients can expect up to 40% fewer treatments than they would need using other tattoo removal lasers. PiQo4 can treat the 9 most common ink colors, allowing patients with brightly colored tattoos to see exceptional fading with fewer treatments. Sessions are faster, safer, and more effective, while still offering excellent results.

When it comes to skin rejuvenation, patients with pigmentation issues can achieve a more even skin tone by using the laser to correct unwanted hyperpigmentation. Skin problems like vascular lesions and acne scarring can be improved, giving patients confidence in their everyday lives.

Are You a Candidate?

The PiQo4 laser is gentle on the skin, making it suitable for almost any healthy adult with an unwanted tattoo or pigmentation issues. However, patients with cancerous lesions or those with a history of keloid scarring are not considered to be good candidates for the procedure.

Although PiQo4 is the best option in the market ,some tattoos, birthmarks, lesions, and other pigmentation issues will respond better to treatment than others, and more treatments may be needed to get satisfactory results. Only you and a qualified plastic surgeon like Dr. Masri can make the decision about your individual candidacy.

Your PiQo4 Consultation

Before you undergo any treatments with the PiQo4 laser, you will meet with Dr. Masri and a consultation specialist in the location of your preference in Dearborn, Michigan, for a consultation. The consultation is very important for planning your procedure and ensuring that you are a good candidate for PiQo4.

During your consultation, your tattoo or unwanted skin pigmentation will be examined carefully, allowing our team to assess the type and complexity of the issue. You will be asked a few questions to help assess your candidacy, and you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the treatment process with our experts to ensure you’re ready to move forward. Don’t forget to ask any questions you may have during your consultation—it’s the perfect time to get the information you need to make the right decision for you.

The Procedure

The PiQo4 laser procedure is simple, quick, and straightforward. Some patients choose topical numbing creams or cold air applied to the treatment area prior to each session, while others find that they do not need these skin soothing measures to remain comfortable.

During the session, the laser handpiece is passed over the tattoo or the areas with unwanted pigmentation. The range of wavelengths in the laser remove uneven pigment in the skin, allowing the body to gradually dispose of the ink or melanin (natural brown pigment) in the skin. This process usually takes less than 20 minutes to complete. Patients can head home right after their treatment is complete.

Recovery

Following treatment, the treated area may feel and look sunburned for a few hours. Patients generally do not need to restrict their activities as long as they are feeling well enough, and most people are able to resume their lives as usual immediately after treatment. Side effects should subside quickly, and results should start to appear gradually after treatment.

PiQo4 Laser FAQS

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED TO REMOVE A TATTOO?

While most patients will notice improvement after the first treatment, many tattoos will need several treatments for satisfactory results. Unfortunately, there are so many different factors that go into how easy or difficult it is to remove a tattoo (ink colors, complexity, ink depth, etc.) that it’s impossible to generalize how many treatments an individual tattoo will need. As a rule of thumb, simpler tattoos are easier to remove, however, and the PiQo4 laser generally requires fewer treatments than other lasers.

  • DO PIQO4 TREATMENTS HURT?

While there is some discomfort associated with treatment, most patients find it tolerable, especially as sessions are short. For those who are more sensitive to pain or nervous about the experience, a numbing gel or cold air can be used to make the treatments more comfortable.

  • IS THE LASER FDA APPROVED?

Yes, the laser is approved and overall very safe for patients.

  • IS PIQO4 A GOOD TREATMENT FOR WRINKLES?

While the PiQo4 laser does offer skin rejuvenation benefits, it is better suited to tattoo removal and unwanted brown pigment in the skin, rather than wrinkle treatment. Other procedures may be a better choice for improving the appearance of wrinkles.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR SKIN REJUVENATION?

As with tattoo removal, the exact number of treatments needed will depend on the patient. However, the average patient needs 3-4 treatments with the PiQo4 laser in order to see good results. Some patients may need more, some may need fewer.

  • WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

The PiQo4 laser is generally very safe. However, there are some potential complications that can occur that patients need to be aware of. Hyper- or hypopigmentation, scarring, and changes to skin texture occur rarely. Patients with dark skin are more likely to experience hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) due to the way the laser interacts with pigment in the skin. Patients with a history of keloid scarring may develop complications and may want to avoid PiQo4 treatments.

  • WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Most areas of the skin can be treated with the PiQo4 laser because it is gentle on the skin. However, the area around the eyes should be avoided in order to prevent damage in this sensitive area.

  • HOW IS THE PIQO4 BETTER THAN OTHER LASERS?

The PiQo4 laser uses four wavelengths instead of two, increasing the number of colors that can be treated during tattoo removal. The laser also treats a larger area at a time than other lasers, making the treatment safer, quicker, and easier on the skin.

  • HOW FAR APART ARE PIQO4 TREATMENTS SPACED?

Generally, each treatment should be spaced at least 4 weeks apart to give the skin time to heal and the unwanted pigment to break down.

A FaceTite Procedure at the Masri Clinic

A FaceTite procedure is performed in the privacy of a state-approved advanced surgery center. After the patient is comfortable and ready, the specialist marks the treatment area. A local anesthetic is then administered so the patient feels no pain or discomfort.

The FaceTite device is gently placed on the treatment area. The specialist views the FaceTite monitor to ensure the proper amount of RF energy is delivered to the tissues. If heat changes need to be made, the specialist can make adjustments using the customizable heat settings. Immediately after the procedure, a cooling moisturizer is applied to the skin to calm redness and inflammation. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, total procedure time is between 1-3 hours.

Recovery

A FaceTite procedure has no downtime. Patients may return home or to work shortly after their procedure. The skin may appear a bit red and start to flake in the days following treatment. Ice and a good facial moisturizer can be used to reduce these minor side effects. No pain medications should be needed. Complete healing usually takes 3-4 days.

Results

Results start to appear just one week after the procedure and continue to improve for 6-12 months. Typically, patients appear at least several years younger after their procedure. Some look up to ten years younger. This incredible result is made possible by the combined effects of the following:

  • Tighter skin and underlying tissues
  • Smoother, less wrinkled skin
  • Dramatic improvement in the appearance of visible scars

The effectiveness of the procedure may increase with additional sessions. Results last can last for years, depending on the patient’s lifestyle and genetics. Patients will still continue to age naturally. Maintenance procedures may be performed extend results.

Laser Hair Removal

For individuals searching for the simple solution that removes unwanted hair. Laser treatment can help you achieve the smooth skin that no amount of waxing and plucking at hair salons can accomplish. At Masri Clinic, one of the most trusted providers of cosmetic procedures including laser hair removal in Michigan, we can help you with the kind of hair loss that you will celebrate.

Understanding Laser Hair Removal

Some people learning about laser hair removal for the first time might be intimidated by it. After all, we don’t normally deal with lasers in our everyday life. But lasers aren’t necessarily dangerous or gigantic; when it comes to laser hair removal, lasers can actually be quite beneficial for the skin.

So what are lasers, and how do they effectively remove a patient’s body hair? Lasers are intensified high-energy pulsating beams of light. The lasers are directed to the skin where they specifically target the hair. The hair is burnt down to the hair follicle, producing enough damage to cause semi-permanent hair removal. When done properly by a laser hair removal expert, the procedure is perfectly safe and harmless.

SPLENDOR X Hair Removal: Virtually Painless and Incredibly Quick

There are many laser hair removal systems on the market, each with their own features and laser types. At Masri Clinic, our preferred system is the trusted SPLENDOR X hair removal system by Lumenis. After years of working with countless patients with various hair removal goals and needs with a variety of laser hair removal machines, we have found the SPLENDOR X to be the ideal hair removal device available.

What makes the SPLENDOR X one of the best laser hair removal systems on the market? The SPLENDOR X by Lumenis is a new type of laser that is used to permanently remove unwanted hair on the face and body.

The major benefit of the SPLENDOR X is in the patient’s comfort. Laser hair removal treatments can be painful and long, especially when performed with traditional laser hair removal equipment and practices. The lasers can potentially burn the skin, and each session demands that the patient sits still for uncomfortable periods of time.

Laser hair removal patients of SPLENDOR X experience virtually no pain throughout the entire procedure, and the treatment time is cut in half when compared to other laser hair removal devices. This is due to the various innovations and new technologies integrated in the SPLENDOR X that make it 75% more effective than previous methods. These innovations include:

  • A hybrid laser that combines wavelengths of Alexandrite and Nd:YAG. We can maximize the results of every treatment by offering a truly personalized laser energy output for each patient’s exact needs. Regardless of skin type, tan levels, or hair pigment, the SPLENDOR X can provide the optimized laser solution.
  • The treatment not only affects the hair follicle but also targets the blood supply to protect against regrowth.
  • With its unique square design, every inch of the skin can be treated with precision. In models with a round laser spot, there is laser treatment overlap to reach untreated areas. This leads to areas possibly treated more than once, leading to burns and injuries. With the SPLENDOR X, both the patient’s time and safety are prioritized.
  • The device’s tip comes with cooled air, ensuring comfort and safety with every session.
  • The straight lines of the laser output are ideal for shaping areas like the hairline and beard.
  • SPLENDOR X is also safer for darker skin tones and can more effectively treat finer hairs.
  • SPLENDOR X is operated by a trained technician but is largely computer automated, with numerous settings for a more controlled treatment.

Laser Hair Removal and You: Is Laser Hair Removal Right for You?

Traditionally, laser skin hair removal was more difficult to perform on patients who were not the ideal candidate: fair skin with dark hair. This is due to the nature of laser hair removal: to ensure that the heat of the laser is absorbed by the hair instead of the skin, there must be a stark contrast in hair pigmentation and skin type. If the unwanted hair and the skin are similar in color, it is difficult for the laser to target the hair, meaning there is a possibility of skin damage from the laser heat being absorbed by the skin.

However, recent advancements in laser hair removal have opened the procedure to patients of all skin and hair colors. With new kinds of lasers and practices, adjustments can now be made for patients who do not fall under the traditional “fair skin, dark hair” profile for laser hair removal.

As for the area, laser hair removal is most successfully performed on the following areas:

  • Underarms
  • Chin
  • Face
  • Bikini area
  • Legs
  • Back area
  • The skin around the mouth or lips

Other areas with possible hair growth can be treated with laser hair removal, however the results generally do not last as long and might require more treatments. This is because the hair in these areas is usually finer than hair in the underarms, bikini area, or lips or chin area; laser hair removal works best on coarse and dark hair, which absorbs the most heat from the treatment.

Laser Hair Removal Safety: Is It Safe?

Laser hair removal is overwhelmingly safe, especially when performed by a trusted professional. The intensity of the average laser treatment these days is relatively harmless, with the heat mostly being absorbed by the body hair. Depending on the area being treated and the doctor’s preferred laser intensity, a single treatment can last anywhere from 1-10 minutes. With the Splendor X, a full-body laser treatment can be completed within an hour.

During the procedure, the patient should feel no greater pain than a slight tickling or pinching of the skin; in some cases, it will feel like being snapped by a rubber band on the skin. More sensitive patients might feel temporary side effects afterwards, such as skin irritation, redness, and at worst, light burns.

Laser Hair Removal Experience: Before – Consultation and Preparation

In preparation for your laser hair removal treatment, you will be asked to:

  • Shave: While it might seem counterproductive, it is crucial that a patient shaves the treatment area a day before the laser hair removal session. Remember: the purpose of the treatment is to burn the hair down to the hair follicle. The longer the hair, the further the burn will have to travel to effectively damage and neutralize the hair follicle.
  • Avoid plucking or waxing: You might be tempted to wax or pluck if you do not like shaving, but this can also negate any laser hair removal effects. Waxing or plucking can damage the hair follicle, and the hair follicle needs to be completely intact for the laser treatment to work.
  • Avoid products: Do not apply any products on the treatment area on the day of the procedure. This includes deodorants, lotions, creams, and cosmetics.

During – The Procedure

The procedure is quick and simple. The patient is seated in the treatment room; in most cases, the doctor will apply a cool spray to the treatment site. The Splendor X laser hair removal system is then initiated and directed at the treatment site.

Here, the SPLENDOR X flashes the skin and hair with intense beams of light. Depending on the intensity of the beams, the zaps should feel completely harmless, or like soft pinches on the skin. After a series of zaps, the session is complete and the next session is scheduled with the patient, about 3-6 weeks later.

After – Recovery and Next Sessions

The SPLENDOR X hair removal system generally demands 4 to 6 sessions for best results, each session spaced 3-6 weeks apart. This ensures that every hair follicle in the area is zapped by the laser treatment at least once along the hair growth cycle.

Aftercare is also relatively simple:

24-48 Hours Post-Session Aftercare

  • Wear only loose clothing, as rough or tight clothing can irritate the skin
  • Stick to shaving your body hair in between the
  • Do not touch the treated area at all. No brushing, rubbing, or any other continued contact
  • No contact with extreme water temperatures, and avoid getting your skin wet or sweaty
  • Wear sunscreen on the treated area on days of heavy sun exposure

Aftercare Maintenance Between Sessions

  • Stick to shaving your body hair in between the sessions; avoid all plucking and waxing
  • Do your best to avoid postponing or delaying your subsequent sessions, and the treatments are on a tight schedule to follow your hair growth cycle
  • Regularly exfoliate any dead or dried skin on the treated area in the weeks between your treatments
  • If you start any new medication in between sessions, make sure that your chosen laser hair removal doctor is aware of it

Possible Risks and Side Effects

  • Temporary Minor Side Effects: You might experience temporary minor side effects that will fade away in a day or two after the procedure. These include slight swelling, redness, and irritation.
  • Scarring: Scarring is an extremely rare risk of laser hair removal, and it generally only occurs with inexperienced laser hair removal practitioners who use the wrong laser intensity for certain skin and hair pigments. With a trusted laser hair removal specialist like Masri Clinic, scarring is a non-issue.
  • Laser Hair Bumps: If you find that your irritation has lasted longer than a day, then you might be experiencing laser hair bumps, in which the irritation is accompanied by tiny bumps on the treated skin. To cure this, gently cleanse the skin 2-3 times a day with a soft towel. For extra treatment, press a cold compress to the laser hair bumps for about 15-20 minutes 2-3 times a day.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL FAQ

  • IS IT BETTER TO WAX OR DO LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal is less painful than waxing and also produces longer-lasting (semi-permanent hair removal) results. If a patient is looking for a solution that will keep their body hair problems at bay for over a year, then laser hair removal is the recommended solution.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED TO SEE PERMANENT RESULTS?

With the Splendor X hair removal system, patients can expect to see their best results after 4-6 treatments, depending on the treated area and the chosen laser intensity for the sessions.

  • DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL CAUSE CANCER?

The link between laser hair removal procedure and cancer is simply a myth. The lasers used in the procedure are superficial, meaning they barely penetrate the skin at all. There is no real evidence connecting laser hair removal and skin cancer or any other cancer.

Laser Skin Treatments

With a laser, your doctor can now remove or lighten most freckles, spots, spider veins, and red birthmarks. A laser can also remove tattoos, warts, and some scars and moles. Blemishes in the top layers of skin, such as freckles and spider veins, can often be removed in one treatment. Other blemishes may require two or more treatments. Once a blemish is treated, it almost never comes back.

Your Experience

Laser treatment is quick. It is done in your doctor's office or at a surgery center in Detroit. You can most likely go home right afterward. To keep you comfortable, you may be given local anesthesia or light sedation before treatment. Or your doctor may numb the skin with ice or an anesthetic cream. Your doctor will give instructions for caring for your skin after treatment. Be sure to follow them carefully.

Freckles, Age Spots and Moles

A laser can quickly remove freckles, age spots, cafe au lait spots, and moles that are not deep or cancerous. After treatment, the area becomes dark and may form a crust. The crust falls off in about 10 to 14 days. This leaves a pink spot, which slowly fades to your normal skin color. You must wear sunscreen until the skin heals fully.

Warts

A laser removes warts and other skin-colored blemishes, layer by layer. This reduces the risk of scarring after treatment. Single warts can often be removed in one treatment. Clusters of warts may take more treatments. After treatment, the skin is pink until it fully heals. This takes a few weeks.

Spider Veins and Birthmarks

A laser is ideal for treating spider veins and birthmarks that contain blood vessels. Blood absorbs laser energy, causing the vessels to shrink and disappear. Spider veins often vanish in one treatment. Birthmarks are treated in small sections, so they take two or more treatments. The skin may appear red and bruised right after treatment. It fades to your normal skin color in a few weeks.

How a Laser Works

A laser is a beam of high-energy light that can be precisely controlled. It can remove veins and blemishes with little or no effect on surrounding skin. This reduces the risk of scarring. A laser also seals nerve endings and blood vessels so there is little pain or bleeding. Many kinds of lasers are used to remove skin blemishes. Your doctor will choose the one that's best to treat your skin problem.

Erbium: YAG Laser

Your face projects an image of who you are. You want it to look as youthful as you feel. But over the years, skin ages. Wrinkles, lines, and age spots appear. Now, these telltale signs of aging can be smoothed out. Using a laser, your Detroit, MI doctor can restore a smoother, softer look to your skin.

What a Laser Can Do

A laser is a beam of high-energy light that can be precisely controlled. During resurfacing, a laser removes skin, layer by layer. The new skin that grows in is smoother and clearer. This means a laser can reduce most of the following:

  • Crow's feet and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Creases and frown lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the nose and mouth
  • Brown spots and other color changes

Your Laser Experience

Laser skin resurfacing is a quick and simple treatment. However, healing takes time. You won't see the full results for several weeks to months.

What to Expect

Ask your doctor to explain the treatment and what to expect afterward.

Before Treatment. You will be given instructions for preparing your skin. Be sure to follow them carefully.

During Treatment. Laser resurfacing is done in the doctor's office or at an outpatient surgery center in Detroit, MI. You'll be given anesthesia or light sedation to keep you comfortable. How long treatment takes depends on what is being done.

After Treatment. For the first few days, your face may be protected with ointment or a dressing. You'll have some swelling and discomfort, and the skin will weep as it heals. Your face will also look as if you have a sunburn. This can last for several weeks. However, the redness can be covered with makeup after 1 to 2 weeks. You must also wear sunscreen until the skin fully heals. You can return to work as soon as you choose.

Risks and Complications. These are rare, but can include lightening or darkening of the skin, infection, and scarring.

Is Laser Resurfacing for You?

Laser resurfacing can enhance your skin and leave it looking younger for years. There are some things to keep in mind, however. Fair skin responds best to laser treatment. Darker skin runs a greater risk of uneven color changes. And although the laser can make you look younger, it can't remove all flaws or change your looks.

  • I'VE HEARD OF LIGHT TREATMENTS LIKE IPL AND LED. HOW ARE THESE DIFFERENT FROM LASER RESURFACING?

IPL treatment improves the appearance of photo-aged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photo rejuvenation for face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.

FemTouch

Vaginal issues are difficult to talk about. Many women are too embarrassed to share any discomfort or fear they have surrounding their vaginal health with anyone but their doctors. While most of us think of the symptoms of aging as a few wrinkles and sagging skin, changes in hormones, childbirth, and other events throughout a woman’s life can affect vaginal health over time. With aging, the vaginal tissue starts to lose collagen and volume, which can lead to dryness, irritation, discomfort, involuntary urination, and pain during normal activities like exercise, sexual activity, or even just when out running errands. Even without issues such as stress incontinence or discomfort, many women feel that vaginal laxity reduces their enjoyment of sex and changes their lifestyle. If you’ve started to notice any of these symptoms, you may be a good candidate for FemTouch laser treatments with Dr. Masri and his team at Masri Clinic for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery in Dearborn, MI.

What is FemTouch?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers have been used cosmetically for decades to treat wrinkles and other signs of aging, particularly for facial treatments. In the last few years, this technology has advanced to become gentler while still delivering great results. FemTouch is a member of the latest generation of fractional lasers, offering patients the benefits of laser treatments without the discomfort and downtime. FemTouch is an FDA-approved treatment that is used to rejuvenate the vaginal walls, stimulating collagen production, which allows the body to restore vaginal tissue for increased comfort and better vaginal health.

Benefits of FemTouch Laser Treatments

While many vaginal rejuvenation treatments are focused solely on the external appearance of the genitalia, FemTouch is a solution for women who are experiencing problems due to vaginal atrophy internally. FemTouch has the benefit of offering a convenient, minimally-invasive solution for women experiencing a variety of vaginal health issues. FemTouch treatments can help improve problems like the following:

  • Vaginal dryness or post-birth scarring
  • Pain or discomfort during sex/exercise
  • Stress urinary incontinence and recurring UTIs

In addition to relieving or reducing symptoms like these, many women report that their sex lives improve and their quality of life is overall better than before treatment. The treatments are quick, convenient, and nearly painless, making them easy to fit into busy lifestyles.

Are You a Candidate?

If you think you may be a good candidate for FemTouch treatments, you will need to discuss your health history with a qualified physician to ensure that there are no contraindications for treatment before moving forward. Candidates for FemTouch are adult women in general good health who are experiencing mild to moderate vaginal atrophy and/or stress incontinence. Patients who are also interested in external cosmetic rejuvenation will need external treatments as well. FemTouch is not appropriate for women who have a chronic vaginal infection or have had an abnormal PAP smear within the last 12 months.

The Procedure

The FemTouch procedure requires no anesthesia, unless external rejuvenation is part of the treatment plan. In this case, a topical numbing cream will be applied to reduce any discomfort during the procedure. A specialized sterile wand is inserted into the vagina, which then delivers fractional CO2 energy to the vaginal walls. The device delivers 360-degree energy to the entire area, stimulating collagen production, which eventually creates new tissue. The internal procedure is nearly painless and feels similar to a vaginal exam. The treatment lasts under 10 minutes, unless external treatment is performed as well.

Recovery & Downtime

Women can return to most of their normal activities immediately after each treatment. Patients may be prescribed a hydrating gel to relieve any itching or discomfort following the procedure. Some discharge may occur following the procedure, which is normal. Patients should avoid hot showers, saunas, and hot tubs for the first 24 hours, and they should abstain from sex for the first 72 hours after each treatment.

FemTouch FAQs

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE RESULTS CAN BE EXPECTED?

Some women report results almost immediately after the first treatment. With that said, collagen development is a slow process that can take 3-6 months to complete, as well as several treatments. Patients can expect some improvement in the first few weeks but will enjoy more comprehensive results as the treatment plan progresses.

  • WHAT ARE THE RISKS? IS THE PROCEDURE SAFE?

FemTouch is FDA-approved and developed by Lumenis, the leading CO2 laser pioneer. Like all cosmetic treatments, there is a chance for complications, but these are rare. Infection, redness, and pigmentation changes are some of the very few possible risks of FemTouch. Overall, the procedure is very safe, especially when performed by a highly skilled physician.

  • ARE THE TREATMENTS PAINFUL?

Patients may experience a warming sensation during treatment, but no anesthesia is needed as the treatment is overall very comfortable. The sensation is similar to that of a vaginal exam, since the device must be inserted into the vagina.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL BE NEEDED FOR GOOD RESULTS?

While some women notice improvement after the first treatment, typically around 3-4 treatments are needed for optimal results. These treatments are spaced approximately four weeks apart in order to allow the tissues to heal and new tissue to form. Generally, one week after menstruation is the best timing for FemTouch treatments.

  • WHEN IS IT SAFE TO HAVE SEX AFTER EACH TREATMENT?

Patients should wait at least 72 hours after each treatment to resume sexual intercourse. The vaginal tissues need time to heal and sex could irritate them, increasing risks for complications and impeding results. Most women notice a positive difference once they do resume sexual activity after treatment.

  • IS FEMTOUCH SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?

FemTouch has not been shown to be harmful during pregnancy, but you should always discuss your individual health with your doctor before moving forward. In general, it may be better to wait until after childbirth to receive treatment, since the vagina will experience significant changes during and after pregnancy and childbirth.

  • HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

FemTouch encourages the body’s natural responses, which provides ongoing improvement for months after treatment. The longevity of results depends on the patient, but FemTouch treatments typically produce long-lasting results. Touch up treatments may be needed every 1-2 years as aging continues to progress and collagen levels drop once again.

  • IS IT SANITARY?

Safety and hygiene are of the utmost importance in FemTouch treatments, and the equipment used is sterilized and sanitary.

  • WHAT’S THE RIGHT AGE FOR FEMTOUCH TREATMENTS?

Women of all ages who suffer from issues related to vaginal atrophy can benefit from FemTouch treatments. While most women are menopausal or post-menopausal, some younger woman may also need FemTouch treatments to maintain their vaginal health.

  • ARE MOST PATIENTS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS?

Both patients and doctors have been amazed by the results FemTouch can provide. Most women are thrilled with their results and find they are not only more comfortable but they feel more confident as well.

The Fractional Resurfacing Procedure

Fractional laser resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method in which columns of skin are treated, leaving the skin surrounding each column intact to aid in healing.

During your treatment, a Co2 laser will vaporize the superficial and outermost layer of your skin. Bursts of laser energy are computer controlled in a pre-defined pattern such as a square, circle, rectangle or linear pattern best suited for your skin. The laser creates a controlled “burn” without thermal heat which results in a less damaging procedure. The laser resurfacing process controls the depth of your skin treatment which creates the opportunity to address of the delicate tissues surrounding your eyelids.

Recovery after CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing

The skin will continue to improve for a period of six months following the procedure provided proper skincare is used and sun exposure is minimized. Sometimes the results are not significant until the sixth and even the ninth month, depending on the person's age, their aftercare routine and their history of smoking.

After the treatment, most patients describe the post-procedure sensation as being similar to a bad sunburn for about twelve to twenty-four hours. Healing may require seven to fourteen days. Co2 fractional laser resurfacing is performed in our office. Both pre-treatment and post-treatment medications will ensure proper healing and comfort during and after the procedure.

Discomfort associated with the procedure can be expected to vary depending upon the depth of the treatment. For your comfort during the treatment, you may receive a topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, or tumescent anesthetic, possibly combined with sedation. Patients generally rest after the procedure. Your skin will be raw. You will be provided instructions for maximum healing.

After the procedure we like to see our patients each day for three days in order to ensure that healing is progressing. You can usually apply makeup or venture out in public on day seven. However, your skin will be pink and sensitive for one to three months. A skincare regimen and sun avoidance is recommended for best healing and optimal results for a period of six months following treatment. Sub-optimal results or unwanted side effects may occur if you do not follow post-procedure instructions.

Your skin will continue to age from sun exposure, environmental stress or overall health and lifestyle choices such as smoking. To maintain laser results we recommend a healthy skincare routine including cosmeceutical products and facials which are medical grade.

Consultation with Masri Clinic for Fractional Resurfacing

One laser treatment with Co2 fractional laser resurfacing is generally recommended. Occasionally, patients may have an area where aggressive treatment is not suggested. In that event, more than one treatment may be required in order to optimize results. Maintenance treatments may also be necessary to maintain your results, particularly if the sun is not avoided or the patient does not engage in proper skin care used. In some cases, an additional treatment may be required one to two years after the initial treatment in the area around the eyes.

Co2 fractional laser resurfacing can be combined with other treatments but not in the same area(s) on the same day. Wrinkle relaxers can be combined to reduce unwanted wrinkles caused by muscle contraction. Dermal fillers can be used to fill areas where volume has been lost such as the lips, cheeks and lower eyelids. Botulinum toxin two weeks prior to the treatment may enhance the effect on wrinkles caused by movement.

This is not a treatment for pregnant women or anyone who has been treated with isotretinoin (or Accutane) within six months. The physicians at the Masri Clinic will discuss the best options in order to reach your aesthetic goal.

SmartLipo

Masri Clinic for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in Detroit is proud to offer the first SmartLipo™ device in Michigan that utilizes multiple laser waves and SmartSense technology, a safer and more effective system for SmartLipo™. Smartlipo™ melts away fat in any area of your body, tightens your skin, and reduces stretch marks. Board Certified Plastic Surgeons at Masri Clinic in Detroit offers the latest non-invasive and minimally invasive technologies to provide post-pregnancy patients effective treatment solutions for stretched skin, excess fat and cellulite.

Recent FDA Approval

SmartLipo™ liquefies fat and significantly tightens skin using fine laser fibers that are placed under the skin. Pioneered in Europe, the SmartLipo™ procedure is the first laser-assisted liposuction procedure, and after its recent approval by the FDA has quickly been labeled the cutting-edge procedure in cosmetic surgery. SmartLipo™ has become extremely popular due to the significant decrease in risk and shorter recovery time compared to traditional liposuction.

As more women and men want to look and feel better about themselves, body contouring and lipo-sculpture continue to grow in popularity, making liposuction the most popular cosmetic surgery performed today. SmartLipo™ is the first and only laser-assisted lipolysis system to offer a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure for the removal of fat using a high powered laser. SmartLipo™ is a new laser body sculpting procedure with less downtime and side effects than traditional liposuction.

Faster Results, Shorter Recovery Time

Because SmartLipo™ is minimally invasive, it allows patients to see faster results, fewer complications and shorter recovery time. SmartLipo's patients only need a local anesthetic, so the patient is not completely conscious during the procedure. SmartLipo™ carries much fewer risks than traditional Liposuction and is performed in the comfort and privacy of Masri Clinic's accredited surgical facility. Often, a patient can go back to work within a few short days, and results continue to become visible for up to 3 months.

How It Works

SmartLipo™ carefully uses a calibrated laser to liquefy fat deposits through the layers of the patient's skin. The laser ruptures fat cells, resulting in an oily liquid substance that is removed through a tiny incision in the skin by a surgeon. The small laser can also seal blood vessels as it zaps fat so, there is less swelling, bleeding and bruising than the traditional liposuction. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means less scarring, shorter recovery time, and no general anesthesia required. Along with many improvements in liposuction, laser lipo takes it one step further and offers increased skin tightening, less damage to the surrounding tissue during the procedure and in return, less downtime post procedure.

Body Contouring Options

SmartLipo™ can be coupled with various lasers that treat the top layers of skin, creating a greater degree of tightening. Masri Clinic in Detroit, MI offers Body By Thermage, an enhanced version of the radiofrequency treatment for skin tightening and contouring. VelaShape treatments combine radiofrequency waves 'hitchhiking' on an infrared wave with suction and massage to gently tighten skin and reduce cellulite. For some patients, combining all of these modalities can replace the need for a tummy tuck.

If you're seeking a cutting-edge, highly effective method to significantly improve the safety and efficiency of many surgical techniques, this laser technology is definitely the technique you will want to consider.
